Matthew Van Abbema
Understanding religion has always been difficult for me. I had questions and couldn't find answers that satisfied my curiosity until I found Mere Christianity by C. S. Lewis. After reading that book, along with The Screwtape Letters and The Great Divorce, I had finally found a firm foundation to explore religion from. At that time I was studying History at Carleton University, but the more of C. S. Lewis I read, the more I became interested in Philosophy and Theology. I switched my major and my university to study Theology at Dominican University College. Religion still raises many difficult and challenging questions for me, but these are the questions that are the most worthy of answering. The work of Lewis led me to G. K. Chesterton and Peter Kreeft. Reading their books, articles and thoughts has fostered in me a hope to be as creative, talented and devoted to understanding how to make Theology and Philosophy accessible and meaningful for many as they are.

Alternatively, how awful would it be to love the idea of being married without wanting to put in the effort of being worthy of marriage? I imagine that some people love the romance of marriage, but do not equally love the chance to better themselves for it
