Making Use of Water

Photographer Dave Andrew's captures the stillness of a moored canoe waiting in the sacred act of stillness.

Dave Andrews

The gentle lap of water is almost audible in photographer Dave Andrews' soft image of a canoe bobbing in the stillness of morning water. Water - the holiest and most ordinary of elements - brings to mind lines from Philip Larkin's poem "Water":

"If I were called in

To construct a religion

I should make use of water..."
